The Formation of the Chiefdom Reduction Emission Coordinating Committee Under The jurisdiction Project
The Zambia CBNRM Association (ZCA) is proudly participating in the formation of the Chiefdom Emission Reduction Coordination Committee (CERCC) and the development of the Chiefdom Emission Reduction Performance Plan (CERPP) in Eastern Province under the Carbon Jurisdiction Program.
This important activity is aimed at formalization of the governance structure CERCC in order strengthening local leadership and community participation in climate action in eastern province by ensuring that chiefdoms play a central role in the planning, coordination, and implementation of emission reduction interventions. The establishment of the CERCC provides a structured platform where traditional leaders, community representatives and other stakeholders can work together to guide carbon reduction initiatives at chiefdom level.
The development of the Chiefdom Emission Reduction Performance Plan (CERPP) is equally significant activity that is being done because it outlines key drivers of deforestation, forest degradation and locally appropriate mitigations actions which promote sustainable land use, and improve natural resource management while enhancing community livelihoods. Through this plan, communities are able to identify practical solutions that contribute to environmental conservation and generate long term social and economic benefits such as the use of cookstoves, smart agriculture and agroforest.
ZCA’s participation in this process demonstrates its commitment to:
By working closely with local communities and traditional authorities, ZCA continues to contribute to building inclusive systems that empower rural communities to actively participate in carbon governance and sustainable development.
This initiative marks an important step toward creating resilient chiefdoms that can contribute meaningfully to national and global climate goals while improving the wellbeing of local people.
